Media and entertainment group Sky to sponsor Beyond Plastic' award at tve film awards

For the second year running, companies at the forefront of taking businesses and consumers beyond plastic' will showcase innovation in a tve Awards category founded by media and entertainment giant Sky. The tve Global Sustainability Film Awards, now in their 8th year, will launch on 19 May, in Cannes during the film festival. Entries to the Sky: Beyond Plastic category will be invited from companies which have eradicated or reduced plastic from their business model, companies at the cutting edge of creating alternatives to plastic, and those which are creating the technology to ensure all plastic is recyclable.

Sky has been campaigning to save our Oceans from drowning in plastic, since we launched our Ocean Rescue campaign in January 2017,' says John Ryley, head of Sky News. Last week approximately 180 countries signed up to an agreement aimed at restricting the exportation of hard-to-recycle plastic to poorer countries. Our hope is that this, along with other measures now being implemented, will encourage companies to really think creatively about life Beyond Plastic. We look forward very much to seeing how they tell their stories through film.'

Powerful films like Sky's documentary A Plastic Whale , which won the PA Award for Environmental Storytelling at the tve Awards in 2017, have played a crucial role in alerting the world to the plastic crisis,' says Lucy Walmsley, tve business and sustainability coordinator, and organiser of the tve film awards. We're thrilled that Sky, which has invested time and energy so effectively in raising awareness of this crisis, is partnering with us again this year.'

After 19 May, companies are invited to submit films into the competition through the website. Winning films will be screened at the awards ceremony and Gala dinner at The May Fair Hotel, in central London, on 18 November. The Awards are tve's main fundraiser of the year.

Sky has partnered with tve to sponsor the Beyond Plastic category for a second year.
