Berklee's campus in Valencia, Spain, and the City of Arts and Sciences have reached an agreement to keep Berklee at the iconic cultural complex, where the school has carried out activities since 2010, for an additional 20 years. As part of the agreement, Berklee will develop enriching cultural and musical programs at the City of Arts and Sciences, engage in local community outreach projects, and offer scholarships for students from the Valencian Community.
During the event, Ximo Puig, president of the Valencian Government, highlighted the importance of music in revitalizing the Valencian Community and the international element that Berklee brings to the region. Today we sign an [agreement toward an] alliance between the music created at the Valencian Community with the international vision that Berklee represents. It is key for Berklee to have a connection with the Valencian society itself. That's to a large extent where the success of this alliance lies.
Today we celebrate our commitment to this region and this project, where creativity, education, and musical culture are the guiding thread to building a better future.
-Mar a M. Iturriaga, executive director of the Valencia, Spain, campus
We're thrilled to continue operating Berklees international campus in the Palau de les Arts, and grateful to Valencia and the City of Arts and Sciences for embracing us, said Berklee President Roger H. Brown. The vibrant and beautiful campus in Valencia has enriched the education and musicianship of hundreds of Berklee students. We look forward to all the exciting opportunities to come in the next 20 years as we educate the brightest musicians and artists from around the world.
More than 3,000 students from more than 70 nationalities have studied at Berklee Valencia. They have not only become ambassadors of the city, but have connected with its society and its musical culture, developing a great number of projects within the Valencian Community, said Mar a M. Iturriaga, executive director of the Valencia campus. Today we celebrate our commitment to this region and this project, where creativity, education, and musical culture are the guiding thread to building a better future.
