Thales to sponsor masters programmes in aerospace engineering and cybersecurity Rabat During the French President, Fran ois Hollande's visit to Morocco, Thales announced an agreement with the International University of Rabat (UIR). The agreement was signed in the presence of Lahcen Daoudi, Morocco's minister for higher education, and Genevi ve Fioraso, French minister for higher education and research. Under the partnership, Thales will sponsor educational programmes at the UIR's School of Aerospace Engineering and Department of Electronics, Logistics, Informatics and Telecommunications.

Subject-matter experts from Thales will share their knowledge and experience with UIR students in the aerospace engineering and cybersecurity fields, and the Group will organise site visits and open up internship opportunities at Thales entities.

Etienne Pahin, Thales Country Director in Morocco, sees the partnership agreement as a further step in Thales's investment in Morocco's academic ecosystem. For a Group like Thales, tomorrow's technology leadership hinges on how well we prepare the groundwork today, in particular by partnering with universities.

Recognising the central role of education and training

In November 2011, the Thales Group and Morocco's Ministry of Industry, Commerce and New Technologies signed a partnership agreement with four main objectives: significantly to increase the volume of goods and services purchased both directly and indirectly by the Group in Morocco; to support the development of key industrial partnerships; to promote technology transfers; and strengthen ties with universities, research institutes and training establishments.

Support for academic training is one of the strategic priorities of Thales's in-country operations in the Kingdom of Morocco. As early as 2005, the Group signed a memorandum of understanding with the Institut National des Postes et T l communications (INPT) in Rabat to provide project leadership training. To date, 150 engineers from the INPT, the Ecoles Nationales des Sciences Appliqu es (ENSA) and a number of Moroccan universities have received training in advanced technologies. In 2010, Thales signed an agreement on radar architecture studies with the Moroccan Foundation for Advanced Science, Innovation and Research (MASclR) and the ENSA in Marrakech. The same year, the Group further developed its partnership with the INPT with the creation of the Soft Center to promote software development research.
