
Award-winning Brewster Parsons completed Color & Finish for the PSA from Ad Council, Love Has No Labels. Challenging everyone to Rethink Bias, the new spot features a series of loved ones who prove that the power of love transcends gender, race, age, special needs, ethnicity, etc.

The film was shot on location at Santa Monica's popular Third Street Promenade in just one day over Valentine's Day Weekend. Members of the public participated in a Live Installation where couples walked behind a large screen, only to be revealed as real-time motion capture skeletons. As the individuals emerge from each side of the display, biases are challenged. The interactive exhibit proves that the power of love eclipses all labels including gender, race, creed and religion. As viewers quickly discover, were all the same on the inside!
With only one day to shoot, three different cameras were used and the installation featured real-time motion capture. With so much inspiring material, story development was a happy challenge. Brewster Parsons edited the film with Pedram Torbati who was instrumental in shaping the narrative via the edit.
Utilizing the most efficient Color & VFX pipeline was no less critical. Because everything was shot in just that one day, starting very early in the morning with sunrise, until late into sunset; we had the task of keeping the color and look the same throughout, says BP VFX Supervisor/Colorist Louis Mackall, who credits his work in BP's Flame as the tool of choice for this project. We were able to utilize many of the new tools in Flame in order to keep the look consistent. We kept everything in one environment, while adjusting the color and grading, which was key for the timeline.
BP's Post Producer Zack Whitley points out that the turn-around was at a feverish pace. We collaborated closely on this project with R/GA and Ad Council, says Whitley. We worked continuously until the PSA was released the first few days of March, giving us just over two weeks from shoot to delivery. With Louis' experience and expertise, and our use of Flame's newest tools and workflows, we were able to make this happen.
