New Series on RT jr Radio fosters children s love of books

15/05/2015 RT jr Radio today announces a brand new presenter, Hazel Doyle, for Little Pages, the stations popular childrens book programme. The new series starts this Sunday May 17th at 11am.

Hazel Doyle, who is also a presenter on SwipeTV has a strong background in literature and the arts: she has worked at the Kilkenny Arts Festival and holds a degree in English, French and Theatre and Performance.

Little Pages is a weekly programme aimed at RT jr Radio listeners and their parents. Its aim is to help parents and children choose high quality, enjoyable and well-written books for young readers aged four to eight.

Hazel, who is from Kilkenny, says: I'm really looking forward to having an excuse to read books for young readers again; they have the best storylines and the best characters! Plus, some of them even have pictures, which really helps to tell a story! Little Pages gives kids a chance to tell us grown-ups what they really want to read. The pages might be little, but the show is a huge, exciting journey into young people's literature.

In her first programme, Hazel and her guest reviewer Catherine Leahy (6) from Sandford Parish National School and ITW, Ranelagh will review Bears Don't Read by Emma Chichester Clark and You can't take an Elephant on the Bus by Patricia Cleveland-Peck.

Each programme will feature one book, varying from classic to modern texts, from which the presenter and a child will read sections and give their views and opinions. Little Pages will cover children's fiction, from classic authors such as Beatrix Potter, Roald Dahl and Enid Blyton to contemporary Irish authors such as Siobh n Parkinson and Roddy Doyle.

Picture books and poetry books from both Irish and international authors will also be explored. The programme will also give details of children's literary and storytelling events around the country as well as a section for parents called Parent's Pages' presented by children's literature expert, Rebecca Long.

RT jr Radio is available on digital radio and online, is just one part of RT 's overall RT jr service, which includes a TV strand, radio station and websites.
