Sky and Entertainment Film Distributors announce new multi-year movie agreement
Sky Movies customers able to enjoy exclusive access to hit films including Silver Linings Playbook in HD, on demand and on the move, alongside a wide range of classic titles
Sky today continues to strengthen its leadership in movie content by agreeing a new multi-year deal with the UK's leading independent film distribution company, Entertainment Film Distributors, to bring Sky Movies customers exclusive access to hit movies including The Master, Silver Linings Playbook, Beautiful Creatures and The Host, alongside a wide range of classic titles.
The agreement spans the first subscription pay TV and pay-per-view windows, enabling Sky Movies to show releases from Entertainment Film Distributors across its On Demand service and channels, and on a rental basis via Sky Store and Sky Movies Box Office. All films will be shown ad-free and uncut, and in HD, device and title-permitting.
The deal means that Sky Movies customers will enjoy exclusive access to new titles from Entertainment Film Distributors around six months after they have ended their run in cinemas. Once on Sky Movies, the films will be available on the service for more than a year, during which time they will not be available on any other TV channel or subscription service.
Under the terms of the agreement, Sky Movies will be the first subscription service in the UK & Ireland to show the BAFTA and OSCAR nominated films Silver Linings Playbook, starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence and The Master, written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams.
Alongside these new films, Sky Movies customers will also have exclusive access to Entertainment Film Distributors' world-class back catalogue containing a wide range of classic titles including Brokeback Mountain, The Departed, Gangs of New York, American Psycho and Ali.
As long as their Sky+HD box is connected to their broadband connection, Sky Movies customers will be able to watch all the films when they want through Sky's On Demand service. Customers are also able to take their Sky Movies service with them while they are on the move, watching the movies on a range of internet-connected devices including iPhone, iPad and Android smartphones through Sky's award-winning multiplatform TV service Sky Go.
The movies will also be available via the Sky Movies monthly pass on NOW TV, the internet TV service powered by Sky which offers easy and flexible access to Sky Movies across a range of internet-connected devices.
Ian Lewis, Director of Sky Movies, comments: This new deal means that Sky Movies customers can continue to look forward to even more of the biggest films, enjoying them on demand on their Sky+HD set-top box and even taking the movies with them on their smartphone or mobile tablet. We're delighted to be extending our relationship with Entertainment Film Distributors, who have been great partners for many years. As a result of the partnership, we're able to offer Sky Movies customers exclusive subscription access to EFD's hit movies such as Silver Linings Playbook, alongside a great selection of their classic titles.
Nigel Green, Joint Managing Director of Entertainment Film Distributors, adds: We're delighted to be continuing our partnership with Sky, meaning that Sky Movies customers will be able to enjoy our hit films and classic titles. Having worked with Sky for nearly twenty years, we value their long-standing expertise in providing their customers with the best possible movie-viewing experience, helping film fans get the most out of our great selection of movies.
