A passion for insurance inspires sponsor of tve's Reshaping the Economy film award

Barbara Schurer, a Lloyd's of London Name' and one of the private capital backers of the world renowned underwriting hub, is sponsoring tve's Reshaping the Economy award at the tve Global Sustainability Film Awards together with Fastflow Group.

Barbara joined Lloyd's in 1988, and, based on her extensive knowledge and experience of the Lloyd's Market, Barbara has just launched The Lime Street Guide, her online platform for daily news and updates about the 330 year old institution and the broader insurance market.

The tve film awards recognise companies whose films most powerfully portray solutions to sustainability and the challenges of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Insurance has a key role to play in reshaping the economy to address the SDGs,' says Barbara, who published the book The Lime Street Guide to Lloyd's' in 2009. The industry is already proactively helping to tackle the challenge of climate change. Microinsurance, providing poor and low-income households with insurance to protect themselves against the effects of risk, has huge potential to improve the lives of the most vulnerable people around the world, while the development of vast offshore wind farms or satellites in space could not happen without insurance backing.'

Barbara will announce the winner of Reshaping the Economy during the Awards ceremony at BAFTA on Monday 26 November. Short-listed films in five competitive categories addressing, between them, all the Sustainable Development Goals have been announced, and winners in all categories will be announced at the ceremony.

The tve Global Sustainability Film Awards are organised annually by the charity tve. The film competition recognises companies and institutions whose films most powerfully portray solutions for sustainability. This year's competition has attracted 42 entries. For the third year running we are focusing on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which set ambitious targets for world development: eradicating poverty and hunger; ensuring good health, quality education and gender equality; and setting targets for affordable and clean energy, climate action and responsible consumption and production.
