
Sportradar has released a new report, Innovation in Sports Media: The Next Era of Sports Viewing, examining how the sports viewing experience in the U.S. is evolving across broadcast and streaming.
The report draws on Sportradar's work with leagues including the NBA and MLB, and media partners including FOX Sports and NBC. It covers how audiences are fragmenting across platforms and how media companies are responding.
Among the findings:
65% of baseball fans now consume MLB content outside traditional broadcasts. Among younger audiences, 54% of basketball fans aged 18-34 prefer highlights to full games, while 63% of NFL fans under 30 favor streaming over linear television.
The report also highlights examples of broadcasters integrating real-time data into live coverage, including FOX Sports' use of real-time data during Super Bowl LIX broadcasts and NBC Sports Regional Networks' use of GameFrame visualizations to incorporate NBA player tracking data into live coverage.
