RioFilme and Rio Negcios come togeer to create new Rio Film Commiion

Rio Filme, Rio Film Commission and Rio Neg cios are to sign an agreement this month to create a new Rio Film Commission. The new entity will continue the work previously done by the Government of Rio de Janeiro s Filme Rio-Rio Film Commission and it will be headquartered at Rio Neg cios, the official agency dedicated to attracting investments to the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Rio Neg cios has a large wealth of experience in attracting investments to the oil, gas, technology and financial services sectors. We at the RFC hope to learn a lot from them , says the new commission s president, Steve Solot. Although at the RFC we know very well how to work with the audiovisual sector, we need to expand our focus and try to join forces with Rio Neg cios in a partnership that I, with the experience I have in film commissions, see as something rare. To be able to count on a business model where we have an agency specialized in attracting investments to other sectors is an excellent opportunity for both the city and the state .

The State Culture Secretariat (SEC), through the Audiovisual Superintendence, will continue to give support to the new RFC, now a part of City Hall. The Secretariat and the Superintendence remain intimately connected to the project and will obviously handle or facilitate matters that pertain especially to the state of Rio de Janeiro , says Audiovisual Superintendent Julia Levy. According to her, the arrival of Rio Neg cios as a partner will be key in speeding up even more the permit-obtaining process and in offering better service to domestic and international productions. Throughout the four years of the first RFC we did a lot of structuring and now we re taking a qualitative leap. We ll take all that we ve built and take the next step in this very competitive and professional market, with a great demand, and where the city and state of Rio de Janeiro are very important locations .

First steps

After the agreement is signed, Rio Film Commission will enter a transitional period until it relocates officially to Rio Neg cios, which should happen between December of this year and January 2014. Meanwhile, the new commission will be announced to the world at the American Film Market, which takes place in Los Angeles, November 6 to 13. We ll take this opportunity to advertise the new RFC to studios and independent producers through meetings with the Brazilian consulate in Los Angeles, with associations and unions from America and abroad , says Steve Solot.

The new RFC will also be present at the Berlin Festival s European Film Market, February 6 to 14, where the Films From Rio program will enter into force. A Sindicato Interestadual de Ind stria Audiovisual (SICAV) project supported by FIRJAN, RioFilme and Festival do Rio/Rio Market, Rio Neg cios and the RFC, Films From Rio will take up to 10 carioca producers to showcase their work in Berlin, one of the world s most important film markets in the world. Producers who are interested in participating have until November 10 to sign up at SICAV s website (www.sicavrj.org.br).

Besides stimulating increased participation of Rio de Janeiro producers and projects in the international audiovisual market and working towards attracting international productions to Rio, the new RFC will announce initiatives geared towards speeding up, standardizing and facilitating service to audiovisual productions in Rio de Janeiro.
