State of development and perspectives of Ultra HD at IFA 04

Technicolor participated in the Deutsche TV Platform (DTVP), technical seminar: From Ultra HD to UHDTV:

As a key contributing member of Deutsche TV Platform (DTVP), Technicolor participated in the DTVP technical seminar: From Ultra HD to UHDTV , on September 6th. At this occasion, Dr. Dietrich Westerkamp, Technicolor, Director Standard Coordination, gave a presentation: UHDTV as immersive experience, thanks to HDR and 3D Audio.

Dr. Dietrich Westerkamp also contributed to a white book Beyond HD that is covering the progress made on the production chain of Ultra HD.

Technicolor demonstrated UHDTV and 3D Audio immersive experience in collaboration with the leading names of the industry:

Technicolor also participated to demonstrations that presented the state of development and new perspectives of UHDTV at IFA, along with other industry key players. This was another great opportunity to position Technicolor as an expert in UHDTV and 3D audio.

Located in the TecWatch - the non-commercial technical exhibition area of IFA - the DTVP booth (Hall 1.1/Booth 23) showcased UHDTV in 6 dedicated demo areas on current distribution, different technologies such as HDR or 3D audio, and products that contribute to a more immersive experience for end users. It is under this overreaching message that Technicolor R&I teams have closely worked together to contribute to the Ultra HD Home Cinema experience with 3D Audio demonstration.

Technicolor's R&I audio experts contributed to create content recorded in 4K video quality combined with an immersive audio track recorded with a 30-channel EigenMike microphone:

Jazz Club 4K&3D Audio Content - created and produced by Technicolor

3D-Audio-Produktion Lover (Kraftwerk Berlin), which consists of 4K video & 3D Audio recorded with more than 60 microphones, done in collaboration with Sennheiser & Fraunhofer, of the Berlin Rundfunk Choir performance of Lover , a Music Dance Theatre for Chorus and Percussion composed by Christian Jost.

These two pieces of content were demonstrated in a home cinema environment, including a Sony 4K video projector, and illustrated Technicolor's know how in encoding and decoding of such content, and integration with a 9.1 loud speaker setup. For this immersive audio project, Technicolor acted as system integrator along with a number of companies such as Sony, Sennheiser, Neumann, Fraunhofer, DVS, and others.
