Harry & Meghan: An African Journey

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took their baby son Archie on their recent Royal tour of southern Africa, ITV News at Ten anchor Tom Bradby was with them throughout.

Prince Harry has often spoken of Africa as his second home, and on their final morning in the Tembisa township outside Johannesburg said: Ever since I came to this continent as a young boy, trying to cope with something I can never possibly describe, Africa has held me in an embrace that I will never forget, and I feel incredibly fortunate for that.

In the one-hour documentary to be broadcast on ITV this Sunday, October 20 at 9pm, Tom follows Harry and Meghan as they focused on the causes and issues they care about most, taking a behind the scenes look at this modern royal couple.

With interviews from both Harry and Meghan, this is a vivid insight into their impactful work, their roles as modern royals on the global stage and how they balance their public duties with their family life.

Tom Bradby (voiceover): For Meghan this has been quite some year. She has a new husband, new country, new job, new family, new life, new baby. So, in part this colourful, vibrant tour was a chance for her to focus on the work she wants to do. Like here in Nyanga where a charity called the Justice Desk, supported by the Queen's Commonwealth Trust, is teaching women how literally to fight back against endemic violence.

Meghan: Oh my goodness, it's the most inspiring, we just got here and to see everything that they are doing but also that it's not just the girls that are feeling empowered, it's all the roles of the men and the young boys who are also helping them.

Tom Bradby (voiceover) Most of the work was really uplifting for sure but there was another story in this film too of the true pressures of life in the spotlight and the toll it has taken on them both.

Meghan: Look, any woman especially when they are pregnant you're really vulnerable and so that was made really challenging, and then when you have a new born - you know

Tom: It's a long time ago but I remember yeah!

Meghan: And especially as a woman, it's a lot. So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed it's, well

And, also thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I'm OK. But it's a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.

Tom: And the answer is, would it be fair to say, not really OK, as in it's really been a struggle?

Meghan: Yes.
