The Ontario Media Development Corporation and the Rio Film Commiion signed new Cooperation Agreement

Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) and Rio Film Commission (RFC) signed a new Cooperation Agreement for Audiovisual Content Production on September 10th, 2014 to encourage the exchange of audiovisual content producers and co-productions as a means to promote the industry in both jurisdictions. The ceremony will take place during the Toronto International Film Festival, one of the premier audiovisual events in the world.

An agency of the Government of Ontario, Canada, Ontario Media Development Corporation supports the province s creative economy by providing innovative programs, services and funding for six creative industry sectors including film and television.

The primary objectives of the RFC are to offer efficient support to audiovisual content producers and to promote the city and state of Rio de Janeiro as leading destinations for filming.

The new accord will facilitate access by producers of films, TV series, documentaries and other formats of audiovisual content to existing production tools in both regions.

Specific objectives include:

- Schedule film producer trade missions between Ontario and Rio;

- Organize screenings, and information exchanges to encourage partnerships and co-productions;

- Provide support for sports and tourism activities, such as the Olympic and Pan/Parapan American Games as a means of promoting cultural awareness and related business opportunities;

- Promote opportunities for dialogue, innovation and creation of new content, as well as initiatives to further develop the film and media industry.

The new agreement is the second partnership announced this year between Rio and Canada. In March 2014, RioFilme and the Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced a program to jointly finance development of television projects in a total amount of 300k Canadian dollars, funded equally by the parties. CMF fosters, develops and invests in the production of Canadian content for all platforms.

The agreement was signed by Steve Solot, Rio Film Commission President and Karen Thorne-Stone, President and CEO of the Ontario Media Development Corporation in the Glenn Gould Studio at the CBC Broadcasting Centre, 250 Front St.
