Custom Consoles reports strong demand in the broadcast sector for its range of control room desks and Media Wall monitor display supports. Recent projects include a 7.5 metre wide Module-R production desk for a globally active television news network based in the UK. The desk is designed for use by a team of up to seven production staff. Integrated into its centre is a Grass Valley Kayenne vision mixer with five flat-screen monitor displays on Ergotron adjustable supports. Immediately left is the director s position which accommodates talkback and server control equipment plus an additional display screen.
Four production-support positions are located to the left of the director, each with a 4U forward-angled equipment bay and dedicated monitor screens. To the right of the producer is a camera and lighting control position. This incorporates five equipment bays , each 9U high, and two flat-screen video monitor panels. Control panels for Shotoku robotic cameras are integrated into the desktop. A Strand Lighting control palette and expansion mixer are located at the far right of the production desk.
Following the recent completion of a new Module-R desk and Media Wall monitor-support installation at the BT International Media Centre, a second major broadcast content management and transmission service provider has chosen Custom Consoles technical furniture. Four Module-R desks, 15 height-adjustable MDesks and a five-unit Media Wall monitor display supports have been installed its London playout centre. The suite forms part of a newly equipped multichannel master control room and playout suite with 12 operator positions.
Each position incorporates a forward-sloping 4 x 3U pod to accommodate technical equipment. Other equipment is housed in the lower rear section of each desk with all cabling ducted to floor level inside the box-section aluminium legs. Similar cable ducting in the Media Walls ensures complete freedom from stray cables.
The monitorscape supports a total of 24 60-inch monitor screens in two horizontal rows of 12. Ten of the screens are mounted on two Media Wall frames in the MCR, the other 14 on three frames in the playout suite. Storage cabinets are located out of sight below the 60-inch monitors.
Also completed recently were two suites of bespoke technical furniture for compact mobile production vehicles which will be used by a UK-based university. Four operators in each vehicle have access to individual 24 inch video displays and 1U control panels set into the desktop.
A mix-and-matchable control room furniture system, the Custom Consoles Module-R product range allows aesthetically attractive and long-life desks to be configured to meet specific shapes and dimensions from a selection of high-quality pods, base sections, 19 inch rack housings, worktops, end-panel modules and legs. Coordinated desk pods are available as single-bay sections with up 10U chassis capacity.
Media Wall is a robust and efficient multiscreen mounting system. The latest version features a series of enhancements including narrower front-to-back depth, reduced from 600 to 500 millimetres. Like its predecessor, the new Media Wall is fully self-supporting and retains the option of adding coupling brackets directly to the studio wall. Freely adjustable horizontal and vertical screen spacing allows individual display screens to be positioned so that their edges meet exactly. Cable management within Media Wall is now along ducts with finger-trunking slots.
Custom Consoles focus is now on CABSAT 2015 which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, March 10-12. Exhibiting on stand E3-31, the company will show the latest version of its Module-R, Media Wall and SystemTwo Lite technical furniture which are now available with robust profiled panels offering a wider selection of finishes. "We have expanded our CABSAT booth size this year from 12 to 18 square metres, giving us space to exhibit a Module-R desk alongside our Media Wall monitor display mount and a SystemTwoLite edit solution in their new finishes," adds Commercial Director Graham Buchanan.
