High Definition DTT: 15 million homes have HD DTT access

Last night, 150 TDF technicians and engineers were engaged in introducing HD DTT to French homes.

By 6am, all technical operations required for the MPEG4 standard switchover, including reducing the number of multiplexes from 8 to 6, were successfully completed.

The work conducted by TDF involved making national and regional network headends compatible with TDF's 1,627 DTT network transmitters, reestablishing signals with the new configuration and opening a 700 MHz band for Paris region mobile networks.

By 8am, substantially all French homes had access to all HD DTT channels.

The last R7 multiplex also went live last night. As a result, six new DTT channels will be available as early as today in the Rh ne-Alpes region and available in some areas of the Ain, Ard che, Dr me, Is re, Loire, Haute-Loire, Rh ne, Savoie and Haute-Savoie d partements (French counties), while some channels are planned to go live from April 5 to 8, 2016. Following these operations the R7 multiplex will enjoy national coverage equivalent to the other multiplexes.

Olivier Huart said: The HD DTT switchover was a major technological challenge that we carried out just six months after the DTT Modernization Act was passed by the French parliament. Throughout the last eight months our people rose superbly to the challenge backed by their know-how and dedication. TDF demonstrates once again its commitment and professionalism to successfully deliver projects under very tight deadlines .
