EKT launches HEVC Hybrid PowerPlug STB during the IBC in Amsterdam

EKT (Eagle Kingdom Technologies), a leading supplier of advanced STB solutions have created the first Hybrid HEVC STB that plugs directly into the mains power.

The model DCP8005, is a PowerPlug style STB that plugs directly into the main power socket eliminating the need for a separate power adaptor commonly required in today's Hybrid Set Top Boxes.

The units boasts a built in Power Line modem and RF4CE remote reception, the unit can be placed in any position, even behind the TV set, making this the ideal companion for Flat Panel TVs, while being powerful enough to offer a class leading user experience.

With the upcoming HEVC format, we decided to launch our plug style STB with the latest technology to ensure our operators have a product that can display full HD images whilst minimising the IP bandwidth. says Richard Smith, CEO of EKT. The DCP8005 comes with EKT's proprietary solidTV software that will work as a stand-alone solution with full HTML5 and HbbTV 1.5 Compliance. Alternatively, solidTV can be used as the engine supporting 3rd party HTML5 clients, portals and UI solutions aimed at the Operator market. solidTV supports all major CAS and DRM solutions.

In addition to the Cable version, EKT is also launching an IPTV version of the same solution under the DIP8006 model number. Allowing ISP's to deliver full HD and interactive content to all households with the most effective streaming format today.
