Screen Appoints new Head of Research

Screen Subtitling Systems has announced the appointment of Colin France as Head of Research.

France, who previously led the Grass Valley development team responsible for the maintenance and support of Publitronic Software has joined the team at Screen to explore new markets, help extend the product portfolio and consequent reach of the company.

France explains that prior to the Miranda acquisition, his time at Omnibus as a developer on their automation software focussed primarily on third party integration. He adds: At one time or another I have worked with almost all of the big players in the industry.'

The development of Omnibus' ITX, later to be a Grass Valley solution, and its subsequent influence on the penetration of parallel markets led to France's focus in the company being concentrated on bespoke development. This led to yet further integration projects with third party companies.

On France's appointment, Screen's MD Gary Glover commented: It's the right time for Screen to further expand its vision.'

Colin brings with him 16 years of knowledge from within the broadcast industry and indispensable experience of working with many other companies in this space; I'm confident he'll be a significant contributor to shaping a positive and exciting future for Screen and our customers.'

About Screen Subtitling Systems

Screen was founded as Screen Electronics by Laurie Atkin in 1976, and pioneered the first ever electronic subtitling system, providing the first digital character generator to the BBC. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, Screen continued to lead the market, developing a number of new subtitling technologies including fully automated transmission using timecode, the first PC based subtitle preparation system and the first multi-channel, multi-language subtitling systems.

In 2001 Screen took subtitling technologies into the 21st Century with the Polistream transmission and Poliscript preparation products. In 2011 it diversified by acquiring SysMedia Ltd, a leader in the fields of subtitle preparation and interactive / teletext / connected TV content production and publishing systems.
