The implementation standardizes an integrated workflow connecting ultra-high-resolution capture with tracking data and feeding into CX Video Hub platform
The NHL and Cosm announced today that they have installed and integrated C360 capture systems in all 32 NHL arenas as part of a new multi-year deal. With the systems installed in all 32 NHL arenas, ultra-high-resolution, multi-angle video is part of the league's standardized operating environment for more than 1,500 games per season.
Years in the making, the partnership represents far more than a camera upgrade. It's a fully integrated workflow that connects glass-level 10.5K capture with NHL EDGE puck- and player-tracking data and feeds it into Cosm's CX Video Hub, a centralized cloud platform serving everyone from referees and player-safety staff to coaches, broadcasters, and social-media teams.
To understand how this came together, SVG sat down with Cosm's Devin Poolman, chief product and technology officer, and Evan Wimer, head of C360 (a division of Cosm Media), to walk through the technical and logistical journey: four years of testing, the challenge of standardizing across 32 unique venues, and what it means to stream the equivalent of 450 UHD feeds simultaneously on the heaviest game nights.
Cosm's Immersive Content and Production division has installed four of its 10.5K ultra-high-resolution camera systems at glass level in every NHL arena.Broadcast Workflows for Immersive Capture has been a big initiative for Cosm in recent years. How important is this partnership to that effort?
Poolman: This partnership is a significant step because it moves immersive capture from selective use to full league-wide integration. Together, Cosm and the NHL are seeing the incredible value in immersive capture, unlocking new capabilities for broadcast and traditional linear workflows.
With C360 capture systems installed in all 32 NHL arenas, immersive capture is now part of the NHL's standardized operating environment across more than 1,500 games per season. That level of deployment demonstrates that ultra-high resolution, multi-angle capture can function reliably in one of the fastest live sports settings on a nightly basis.
It also completes the workflow loop. In addition to the live and replay capabilities at those arenas, the footage streams directly into CX Video Hub, giving NHL departments centralized live and on-demand access to synchronized coverage of every play in the cloud. Capture and workflow are operating together at league scale.
Cosm Media, which has been working with and testing its technology with the NHL since 2021, has installed systems in all 32 NHL arenas for the 2025-26 NHL season. Take us through the installation/deployment process and the timeline for getting these systems into each building. What were the biggest technical/logistical challenges in installing these cameras across 32 arenas?
Wimer: The deployment followed several years of testing and refinement with the NHL, culminating in full installation across all 32 arenas for the 2025-26 season.
Each arena received four 10.5K C360 capture systems positioned at glass level (behind each net and at each blue line), requiring careful coordination with arena operations to ensure consistent placement, durability, and performance in a high-speed, high-impact environment.
From a logistics standpoint, the priority was standardization. Every building now runs the same configuration, delivering consistent coverage and synchronized capture across the league. That consistency is critical when the system is supporting a schedule that can range from as few as four games to as many as 16 games in a single night, seven days a week throughout the season.
The biggest challenges centered on ensuring uniform performance in 32 unique venues, integrating seamlessly into existing arena infrastructure, and completing installation without disrupting regular-season operations.
Remote access to every live camera and on-demand content library is available via the CX Video Hub. All game action is captured and synced across multiple cameras, covering every inch of the ice, so that no action is ever missed.Tell us about the testing process you've been working on with the NHL since 2021. What were the most significant changes you had to make to the C360 system/workflow based on the league's feedback during that period? what was the hardest problem to solve?
Wimer: Our work with the NHL began in 2021 with controlled testing environments and iterative deployments designed to evaluate performance in live game conditions.
From the outset, the league held a high bar for reliability, consistency, and practical utility. Testing focused on how the system performed at game speed, how synchronized the multi-angle coverage was in real time, and how efficiently league departments could access and work with the footage through CX Video Hub.
Based on league feedback and meticulous testing, refinement centered on optimizing camera positioning at glass level, strengthening synchronization across all angles, and ensuring the workflow supported fast access for replay and review situations. The NHL's operational standards pushed us to fine-tune durability, consistency, and system responsiveness in a high-impact environment.
The hardest challenge was delivering uniform, synchronized performance in one of the fastest sports environments while ensuring the workflow was simple and dependable for league operators. The system had to perform every night, without adding complexity to existing processes.
The integration with NHL EDGE puck and player tracking data seems central to the system's value for officiating and replay review. Can you walk me through how C360 footage and EDGE data are synced in the CX Video Hub? Is this all happening in real time (and if not, what
