(02/09/2014) IBC 2014 runs from 12th to 16th September at the RAI in Amsterdam, with Sony exhibiting in the Elicium Hall. This year's new stand design will act as a platform for a host of ground-breaking customer projects based upon Sony products and services.
Sony will be announcing latest products and demonstrating how developments in 4K technology continue to address the needs of content creators and unite todays vast network of products, systems, services and expertise. This comes after a summer of broadcast landmarks that have redefined what is possible in terms of Ultra High Definition performance and viewing experiences.
2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil
In a world's first for football lovers and Sony's biggest ever managed services contract, together with HBS Sony provided state of the art production facilities in all 12 World Cup venues. The result: the largest and most technically sophisticated live production infrastructure ever assembled to cover a live sporting event.
As part of the FIFA TV broadcast production of the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament, Sony worked with selected partners to deliver three matches in stunning 4K, including the final itself from Brazil's iconic Est dio do Maracan . These followed a string of other 4K world firsts, such as capturing FC Barcelona v Atl tico de Madrid in the BBVA League finale, broadcasting the canonization of Popes John XXIII and John Paul II from St Peter's Square in the Vatican City and the first live 4K Theatre to Cinema production from London's National Theatre.
For the first time ever in live sports broadcasting, Sony and Vue Entertainment teamed up to deliver a unique spectacle for football fans. Two matches of summer's 2014 FIFA World Cup were screened in Sony Digital Cinema 4K at Vue's prestigious Westfield multiplex in London.
The two matches were streamed live via satellite from Brazil's Est dio do Maracan direct to the cinema, in one of the world's most ambitious and visually spectacular live sports broadcasts yet.
IP Live
Sony will be showcasing how IP-based solutions are helping broadcasters to deliver accurate multi-camera live productions with unshakable continuity. This trails the announcement earlier this year of a licensing program for Sony's new AV over IP Interface for manufacturers, promoting the adoption of this technology across the industry.
Modernising workflow for News Broadcaster
Sony will also detail how we're helping national and global news broadcasters to modernise their workflows, delivering increased data transfer speeds that reduce the time between acquisition and transmission.
In the past few months alone, world-class broadcasters such as RTP, Al Jazeera, ITV, TVE, N1, Scottish TV and RAI have all switched to Sony XDCAM.
Lower the cost of your workflow
As Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR and its technical subsidiary tpc squared up to some big challenges to handle television coverage of the 2014 Winter Sochi games, they called on Sony to help journalists collaborate efficiently with a smarter, cost-saving workflow using the Sonaps networked production system.
As well as enabling quicker completion of stories, the solution proposed by Sony saw costly satellite links replaced by transmission of live HD video over a wide area network between Russia and Switzerland.

When the Vatican City's TV Station (CTV) set out to digitise the Vatican records into a tapeless solution, they adopted Sony's Media Backbone Conductor and Optical Disc Archive.
Working with CTV's partners Sony is to ensure this historic content will be safe and accessible for years to come.
