NHNZ?s latest travel series picked up by international Travel Channel

Production house NHNZ's latest series Middle Kingdom Ride, following two daring brothers tackling the world's first motorcycle circumnavigation of China, has been picked up by Travel Channel's international group.

Middle Kingdom Ride is a co-production between NHNZ, G219 productions Ltd and CICC, and distributed by OTF.

The six-part series follows Ryan and Colin Pyle who, inspired by Charlie Sheen's character in the 1987 movie Wall Street, leave the rat-race to travel the wild borders surrounding China some 18,000kms, over 65 incredibly challenging days. Along the way they overcome mechanical failure, traffic accidents, floods, mudslides, heat waves, snowstorms, roadblocks and wild dogs in a series that is fast-paced, funny and illuminating.

Travel Channel will premiere the six part half-hour series around the globe in April 2013.

Amongst all the challenges face by the brothers, Ryan Pyle described the highway that runs from China's northwestern Xinjiang province south in to Tibet - the G219 Highway as the biggest test of their commitment. The highway runs for about 1,000 miles at an average altitude of 16,000 feet above sea level.

Never in my life had I experienced such isolation and remoteness. Never had I had to tackle such challenging road conditions in such extreme weather conditions at such a high altitude. Some might call it a perfect storm of insane riding conditions, but for Colin and I it was the challenge of a lifetime. We rode our BMW F800GS motorcycles for 10 or 12 hours per day just trying to cover enough miles to get to the next truck stop to sleep in.

NHNZ series producer Kyle Murdoch says the series is a great addition to the collection of shows that NHNZ has brought out of China.

We were incredibly lucky with the footage that Colin and Ryan got during their trip. The resulting series is fascinating not only with what the brothers had to contend with in their mission, but also the different cultures that reside on China's borders, and the huge change in landscapes, and some really mind-boggling situations like the 20 day long traffic jam. And they actually did get into the Guinness Book of Records.

The journey follows the Pyle brothers north from Shanghai, across the Yangtze River and onto the border of China and the hermit kingdom of North Korea. Through Inner Mongolia, then onto the Xinjiang province, where they strike camp at the lowest place in China, 150 meters below sea level. They forge on through Xinjiang, China's Wild West, the Karakoram Highway toward the border of China and Pakistan, the world's highest border crossing at 5200m above sea level, to Mount Everest Base Camp, then through Shangri-La and the mystical karst landscape of Guilin before hitting manufacturing towns of China's southeast and home to Shanghai, and into the record books.

Colin and Ryan have just completed their second motorcycle adventure; 60 days circumnavigating India.
