Applications are invited for the position of: Film Scriptwriting Lecturer, There is also a strong emphasis on cultural relevance within the teaching, and the need to help the students identify and develop a distinctive African voice to their films. In this way we hope to be able to contribute to nation building and build the foundations for a sustainable local film industry.

The teaching will comprise of:

The basics of story structure and narrative development.

Protagonist and antagonist.

Inciting incidents, the three and five act structure. Turning points.

Character development, the character arc.

Effective dialogue writing.

Reverses, sub plots.

Key Duties:

Lecturing 2nd and 3rd year degree film and TV students

Script reviews for productions and writing workshops

Assessment panel participation for narrative component on student projects

Conducting student consultations and reflective meetings

Preparing content and lesson plans for each term

Assessment registration for the term's assessments

Creating parity across all campuses on term outcomes

Attendance registers and class management administration

Timetable planning

Curriculum development

Requirements and Personal Attributes:

At least 5 years' experience in the film and entertainment industry in scriptwriting and script editing

Relevant Honours degree in Writing, Film and/or Media Studies with specialization in scriptwriting.

Computer literacy

Highly developed organisational skills

Initiative

Maturity to handle a range of situations

A meticulous and thorough nature

An ability to work to tight deadlines

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

Loyalty and a high level of confidentiality
