MeshFusion wins CG Award

MODO plug-in MeshFusion wins CG Award The popular plug-in, created by Braid Art Labs, has won the Software Innovation CG Award.

MeshFusion beat stiff competition from Bifrost (Maya) and Chronosculpt to take away 3D Worlds Software Innovation award.

Other winners who used The Foundrys software included Gravity (Framestore), The Blue Umbrella (Pixar) and The Lego Movie (Animal Logic). See the full list of winners here.

The MODO plug-in enables the user to take advantage of new modeling operations and interactively blend, add and subtract objects to create consistently high quality subdivision surface (SDS) models faster and more efficiently than ever before. MeshFusion removes the challenge of complex and frustrating boolean operations and makes the process of producing high quality models consistent and accurate.

We love this video from MeshFusion user Chris Cousins, who used the MODO plug-in in his self-initiated project.

The forms built with Mesh Fusion seem to have a greater solidity, density and heft compared to many poly-built 3D objects, something to do with the carved edges and tooled building process. So I built a scene to explore this, which turned into a fun self-promo metal & glass workout. I made a conscious effort to keep the animation physical, so the structures have mass and intertia, and objects are constrained to behave as believably as possible.
