Porto Canal television relies on VSN to rebrand its image and strengen its presence in Portugal

The generalist Portuguese cable television channel has once again trusted on VSN Innovation & Media Solutions, in order to update its VSNMULTICOM automation solution, as well as to install and implement a new End-to-End solution to automate all media management, video ingest and channel's traffic planning and managing. Porto Canal chose VSN to carry out the complete upgrade of their existing software solutions.

Since Porto Canal associated with the Portuguese F.C. Porto football club in 2011, Porto Canal has bet on renovating its brand image and technically improving its existing infrastructure, in order to became a bigger and more efficient TV with a wider presence in Portugal. Thus, the main goal was to foster this change while taking into consideration some top-rated requirements, such as the integration of the new systems with the already existing ones, the change to HD format (1080i), the addition of new studios and locations (F.C. Porto Stadium) and finally, the installation of all these improvements in a limited timeframe and without interfering in the channel's daily tasks.

To meet all the aforementioned demands, VSN started with the upgrade of Porto Canal VSNMULTICOM automation solution, that was in place since the channel launched in 2006, as well as with the installation of a new central core system to manage all the TV's Media. This complete system for managing the media was composed specifically by VSNEXPLORER PAM and VSNSPIDER, which together are capable of handling and managing all the content and workflows required for the edition and archive of Media. This way, Porto Canal can monitor all the creative process on an End-to-End basis, that is, from the files' ingest to their broadcasting.

The latest system update carried out by VSN at Porto Canal also included the installation of Ross INCEPTION solution to speed up news production, VSNAUTOREC and VSNCAPTURER to automate the files and video ingest, and lastly, VSNCREATV traffic system to allow to control and handle efficiently all the workflows that may exist between departments when producing and broadcasting content.

Thanks to the implementation of all these solutions, Porto Canal has left behind the vast majority of daily tasks that were being developed manually, so as to completely automate its workflows from end-to-end. This way, the time and resources saved have optimized the TV's efficiency and improved the journalists' productivity. Now Porto Canal professionals can spend more time on improving the content that is being broadcasted, as well as on expanding and widening the channel's media coverage in Portugal.
