BALAN NAIR SELECTED AS 2015 SCTE CABLE-TEC EXPO CHAIR

Premier cable engineering event to be held Oct. 13-16 in New Orleans

SEPT. 24, 2014 (Denver, CO) Expanding the international scope of SCTE Cable-Tec Expo , the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) today announced that Balan Nair, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Liberty Global, will serve as the program committee chairman for SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2015, scheduled for Tuesday through Friday, Oct. 13-16 in New Orleans.

Nair will be responsible for driving the creation of the Cable-Tec Expo 2015 program, most notably the development of educational content that will accelerate global deployment of next-generation products and services, as well as the subject matter for an Oct. 13 pre-conference symposium. He succeeds Tony Werner, executive vice president and CTO of Comcast Cable, as Program Committee Chair.

"His experiences in the global marketplace will bring a unique perspective that will help us to grow the value of SCTE Cable-Tec Expo for the cable industry in the United States and abroad."

"A key objective of the Cable-Tec Expo 2015 Program Committee will be to identify the technologies that will take cable into the future, and to create an agenda that prepares our industry to maximize the value of the changes ahead."

SCTE recently announced the creation of the International Society of Broadband Experts (ISBE), a global brand that will unify the availability of SCTE resources around the world, as well as a commitment by Liberty Global to participate as a member in the SCTE Corporate Alliance Partner (CAP) program.

Since joining Liberty Global in 2007, Nair has been responsible for overseeing the global network, IT, and technology operations, which span two continents and 47 million homes. Nair also is responsible for new product development, oversees global procurement functions and leads Liberty Global's Technology Investment Venture group. He is an executive officer of Liberty Global and sits on the company's Executive Management Committee and Investment Committee. Previously, Nair served as AOL's chief technology officer overseeing technology, IT, and network operations and was Chief Information Officer of Qwest Communications.

The cable telecommunications industry's largest engineering show, Cable-Tec Expo annually brings together experts from across the cable operator, programmer and vendor communities. The conference supports SCTE's educational goals through technical workshops, hands-on, technology-focused exhibits and knowledge sharing with peers from throughout the industry.
