Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, will exhibit two solutions at IBC 2014 that are designed to help broadcast facilities expand their services without increasing costs. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about Grass Valley's gateway to IP and cloud-enabled playout solutions, shown for the first time to the European market at IBC.
Paving the way to an IP-enabled future, Grass Valley will showcase the new NVISION 8500 Router IP Gateway at IBC, expanding upon its IP presence in multiviewer, ingest, playout, modular and monitoring products. This enables broadcasters to gradually transition from SDI to IP without changing their entire routing switcher infrastructure and workflow.
The NVISION 8500 Router IP Gateway input/output card converts and packetizes real-time, uncompressed, baseband video for multidirectional transport over 10 Gb Ethernet networks. SDI signals are then packetized and can be readily distributed over an IP network. Frame-accurate switching from SDI to IP guarantees signal integrity, and the non-blocking architecture of the cards ensures access to all cross points within the NVISION 8500 Series router.
The video that passes through our routing switchers is integral to our customers' success, and the NVISION 8500 Router IP Gateway ensures an easy migration path without decreasing signal performance, said Mike Cronk, senior vice president of strategic marketing, Grass Valley. Our methodical approach provides a complete, interoperable video-over-IP solution for our customers now and in the future.
Grass Valley continues to invest in emerging technologies with its groundbreaking playout solution, GV STRATUS Playout. This cloud-enabled, software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution combines the efficiency and flexibility of cloud computing with the performance and reliability of an on-site, solid-state playout server on a single card. Playout preparation, distribution, control and comprehensive monitoring of playout devices are handled in the cloud and accessed via a web client, ensuring users can connect to the system quickly and with ease.
This powerful new technology is designed to handle broadcasters' demand for speed, accuracy, security and growth, and offers full control of the location and movement of broadcast media. This is ideal for regionalized and network center-based playout. Reaching regional, local and hyperlocal audiences becomes much easier and efficient, not just with commercials but with promotions and long-form programming to cover blackouts.
By incorporating the Grass Valley Densit SSP-3801 HD/SD solid-state playout card, programming becomes even more compelling with SD and HD clip playback, graphics, embedded subtitles, aspect ratio signaling and multiple audio languages.
GV STRATUS Playout provides broadcast facilities with a unique opportunity to move forward with their plans for expansion and quickly test new markets without significant costs or risks, said Cronk. With its simplified infrastructure model and advanced monitoring tools, GV STRATUS Playout offers a scalable solution that accelerates implementation time, allowing new channels to be on the air in a matter of minutes.
Demonstrations of GV STRATUS Playout and the NVISION 8500 IP Gateway will be available at the Grass Valley stand from Sept. 12-16, 2014, in Hall 1: Stand D11.
