Launch of new tvebiomovies competition for Tsunami Awareness Day Admin/ September 26, 2019/ news

tve has just launched a new video competition in partnership with the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) which focuses on how to build schools, hospitals, roads and other key infrastructure to withstand the damage caused by tsunamis. The competition will coincide with World Tsunami Awareness Day on 5 November and is aimed at professionals in tsunami-effected countries who are working in planning, engineering, architecture, disaster management and related fields.

By the year 2030, an estimated 50 per cent of the world's population will live in coastal areas exposed to flooding, storms and tsunamis. World Tsunami Awareness Day aims to alert governments, local authorities, planners and the general public about need to invest in resilient infrastructure and early warning systems to protect against the threat of tsunamis.

Entrants are invited to send a short, 3-minute film showing what communities, groups and organisations are doing to build more resilience in critical infrastructure. Films will be shortlisted by our judging team and the top ideas will be uploaded to YouTube and promoted through our web site and social media. The public will decide the best three videos, each of which will be awarded a prize.

Entrants must be between 18 and 30 and send their videos by 27 October 2019.

tve's digital outreach manager, Nick Turner, said: People and communities rely on quality infrastructure to improve health, education and livelihoods. This competition gives an opportunity to governments, the private sector, science and technology partners, academia, community groups, and civil society organisations to share best practices to build more resilience and save more lives against disasters in the future.
