Grass Valley Leverages the Power of Dell EMC Isilon Storage to Enhance Playout and News Production
MONTREAL, April 24, 2017 In the broadcast industry, bandwidth is everything. Without the right storage solution, production processes can be slow and the viewing experience can be compromised. Grass Valley, a Belden Brand and leader in professional broadcast solutions, has relied on industry-leading Isilon storage solutions from Dell EMC for many of its products over the years, bringing the proven scalability and reliability of Isilon to bear in applications such as playout and news production.
Broadcast operations are essentially mission critical, with each piece of equipment playing a key role in ensuring the smooth production and delivery of content, said Boromy Ung, vice president, News, Grass Valley. We have worked closely with Dell EMC over the years to qualify interoperability of our products with their Isilon storage solutions, and that work continues today with some of the exciting new products that are available.
The Grass Valley iTX Platform is the worlds most advanced content delivery solution for broadcast television and VOD, used by many of the largest broadcast brands globally, delivering over 20 million hours of media in the last year. Many of our customers employ a Dell EMC Isilon storage solution as the primary store for valuable broadcast media. The new Isilon All-Flash storage platform offers significant bandwidth and IOPS performance, which complements Grass Valleys iTX On-Demand solution. This enables broadcasters and content owners to deliver tailored VOD content to multiple platforms in advance of playout for pre-recorded shows, or to reduce the turnaround time of a live event from hours to just minutes after it finishes airing. Grass Valleys iTX is the first content delivery platform to support Isilon All-Flash and Grass Valley will be showing a demonstration of the setup at NAB.

In news production, many of the same requirements apply. News operations need high bandwidth and scalability, but also are often driven by overall cost of ownership. Grass Valleys GV STRATUS Video Production and Content Management System is a full set of production tools in one application that makes getting productions to air easier and faster than ever. GV STRATUS is now qualified for the Dell EMC Isilon X410 storage system, which means that users have peace of mind when choosing this combination for their operations, no matter the size or budget.
Dell EMC Isilon has also proven to be an ideal solution for real-time editing of content with Grass Valleys EDIUS Nonlinear Editing Software. With the speed and reliability of the Dell EMC Isilon storage solutions, EDIUS users can easily accommodate multiple formats and delivery methods to produce compelling content and get stories to air faster.
