Film industry executive named media development head of AP The Associated Press has named Mimi Polk Gitlin, an executive and producer with extensive entertainment industry experience, as head of media development and production, a role that involves maximizing the exposure of award-winning AP journalism across multiple platforms.
The addition of Mimi to our team is a big gain for AP, said Ted Mendelsohn, vice president of commercial and digital markets. Her considerable expertise in film production and development gives us a great advantage in making APs archive of reports and breaking news journalism even more widely accessible in new arenas.
Gitlin has been an executive at Grosvenor Park Media, a film finance company backed by Fortress Investment Group. She also has had a producing deal at Propaganda Films, and production and financing deals at Disney, Fox, Paramount, Carolco and Columbia Pictures, all under her executive / producing partnership with Ridley and Tony Scott.

APs storied history of breaking news around the world makes them an incredible source of material. Among the many projects Gitlin has worked on as an executive or producer, she is well-known for producing Thelma and Louise, which won an Academy Award for best screenplay.
