GoPro Grows Global Presence with New Additions to Surf Team

GoPro is excited to welcome four star-studded athletes to its surf team this year, enhancing its overall global reach with the addition of Kala Alexander, Mikala Jones, Leo Fioravanti and Mark Matthews.

Born on the island of Oahu and raised in Hanalei on the island on island of Kauai, Kala is one of surfing's elite and embodies the spirit of a professional waterman. He excels in capturing massive surf content on his GoPro, regularly sitting out in the lineup at Pipeline. Kala, The Captain of the 808, is also the Vice President of the Mauli Ola Foundation, which introduces surfing as a natural treatment to people with cystic fibrosis.

Fellow Hawaii-native, Mikala Jones, grew up on the North Shore and starting surfing when he was only two-years-old. Jones started traveling the globe searching for the best waves that rivaled his home-break, and now splits his time between Hawaii and Bali. Being the son of a photographer, Jones is no stranger to capturing tube rides with his GoPro and has truly become a master of barrel shots with his exceptional eye and skill for shooting surf POV.

Leo Fioravanti is one of the biggest and baddest up and coming surfers today - and he hasn't even reached his eighteenth birthday yet. Splitting his time between Hossegor, France, and Rome, Italy, Leo quickly put his home on the map after becoming the WSL European Junior Champion in 2013. However, this past winter Leo broke his back surfing Pipeline at the Volcom Pipe Pro. GoPro wishes him a speedy recovery with hopes of qualifying on tour this year.

Last but certainly not least, Mark Matthews hails from Maroubra in New South Wales, Australia. He has helped to pioneer breaks like Cyclops, Shipstern Bluff and The Right in Western Australia. Not only has Matthews been invited to the prestigious Eddie Aikau contest at Waimea Bay, he has also won a total of three Oakley Big Wave Awards. GoPro looks forward to seeing the epic content he will capture this year.

These new GoPro surf athletes join the full 2015 surf roster which includes: Alana Blanchard, Anthony Walsh, Aritz Aranburu, Chris Ward, Harley Ingleby, Jamie O'Brien, Jamie Sterling, Kalani Chapman, Kalani Robb, Kamalei Alexander, Kelia Moniz, Kelly Slater, Lakey Peterson, Mark Healey, Monyca Eleogram, Shane Dorian and Sunny Garcia.
