Omnitek shows new cost-saving UHD test technology at NAB

Extending its lead at the high speed end of UHD technology, Omnitek is debuting a major innovation in video test and measurement with the addition of never-before-seen features in a mainstream video Test & Measurement product. The new Advanced Physical Layer (PHY_ADV) option for Omniteks already popular Ultra 4K Tool Box brings features only otherwise seen on expensive digital oscilloscopes costing around five times the price.

As anyone working in high data-rate signal processing will know, controlling your sources of noise is key to generating stable signals that will travel the required distance over the interconnection cable. For SDI this means eliminating sources of jitter - caused by switching time variations which are affected by varying power supply voltages, but to do this you need to know its amplitude and frequency how much the SDI waveform is jittering in terms of wavelength - and at what frequencies for each amplitude. Until now, this has only been possible with expensive high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, which in practice means most development labs have at most one very delicate resource that requires careful, shared use and annual calibration.

Omnitek has developed low cost techniques to measure and plot this jitter frequency information and compare it to the specification template, as well as to see the waveform of the jitter against time. The Tool Boxs ability to insert jitter into the output is a further feature of the PHY_ADV option, which allows system engineers to stress a receiving devices ability to hold onto a poor quality SDI signal.

Omnitek is demonstrating the Ultra 4K Tool Box and this new option at NAB Las Vegas 13-16 April on booth N3114.

Also on display at NAB are Omniteks OTM 1000 video waveform monitor and OTR 1001c waveform rasterizer, showing a 4K waveform monitoring solution in conjunction with the Ultra 4K Tool Box, and also showing automatic in-service lip-sync measurement and video picture quality analysis.

Finally, Omnitek dedicates a section of its booth to its Design and Consultancy division, showing the new OZ745-3 high speed Video Development Kit and demonstrations of the OSVP V2.0 and PCIe Gen3 DMA Controller FPGA IP-cores that it supplies for broadcast and AV manufacturers own equipment designs
