London and Rio grow existing partnership

Film London and Filme Rio - Rio Film Commission reconfirmed their Agreement at the Cannes Film Festival. Through the partnership, which began in 2011, London and Rio de Janeiro both city and state pledged to develop the exchange of trade, talent and culture within their respective film industries as well as explore creative exchanges and business opportunities post the London Olympics and in the lead up to the 2016 Olympics Games in Rio.

As the UK strengthens its relationship with Brazil we are delighted to be sustaining and amplifying our partnership with Rio. We are also delighted to confirm a new international partner on the PFM, further extending the Market s reach to now include one of the key emerging markets , said Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission.

Steve Solot, President of the Filme Rio-Rio Film Commission, celebrates the partnership: The new role of the Film Rio Rio Film Commission as International Partner of the PFM offers a perfect means to expand and strengthen our existing relationship with Film London and is very timely in view of the expansion of the audiovisual sector in Brazil in general and in the city and state of Rio de Janeiro in particular .

The Agreement sees the two organisations continuing their pledge to further understanding of their respective film production markets for mutual benefit. On the back of the new UK Creative Sector Tax Reliefs for high-end television and animation, in place as of 1 April 2013, both agencies will be exploring how best to capitalise on these new opportunities.

Since 2011, Filme Rio - Rio Film Commission has worked closely with Film London to develop their Olympic filming strategy ahead of the Rio Games in 2016. Film London successfully assisted productions schedule filming around events, so much so, filming in the capital was up 26% on the previous year s figures and 2012 was the city s busiest year ever for feature films. Film London also successfully serviced the world s media during the Olympic and Paralympic Games to ensure all crews and photographers could capture the best of the city.
