Farncombe: Providing Support for Bay TV Liverpool s Winning Ofcom Bid

Basingstoke and Liverpool, 5 April 2013 - Leading media technology services provider Farncombe today announced that it provided support to Bay TV Liverpool (BTVL) in its winning bid for a local TV licence from UK regulator, Ofcom.

BTVL was created by members of the team that launched Granada TV's state-of-the-art regional electronic TV news operation in 1986 in Liverpool's Albert Dock in partnership with Liverpool's Mercury Press and Media.

Ex-Granada news producer Barry Flynn was contracted by BTVL in 2006, prior to joining Farncombe as Principal Consultant, to offer an independent forecast of how much advertising revenue a Liverpool city TV franchise could be expected to attract.

Barry subsequently delivered this project with Farncombe, and his conclusions featured strongly in BTVL's bid for the Liverpool local city TV licence, which was awarded to them at the end of February 2013.

Chris Kerr, Director of BTVL, said We originally approached Barry not just because he had excellent local insight as a key member of the original Albert Dock launch-team, but because he has a deep knowledge of the TV advertising industry in the UK having worked both as Media Editor at Campaign magazine and marketing director at a BARB research agency after leaving Granada. He and Farncombe kept faith with us over the years and provided us with a critical component for our successful bid.

Bay TV Liverpool (BTVL) is Liverpool's new local city TV station.
