Six Berklee Alumni Nominated for Emmy Awards

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences nominated six Berklee alumni, including Pablo Mungu a, director of Berklees Music Production, Technology, and Innovation graduate program, and composer Ramin Djawadi B.M. '98, for Emmy Awards on Thursday. They are nominated for their musical and sound mixing contributions to some of television's biggest programs and events, including Game of Thrones, Westworld, Barry, Silicon Valley, Marvel's The Defenders, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the Academy Awards, and the Grammy Awards.

Mungu a took home an Emmy for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special in 2017 for his work as a Pro Tools mixer for the 59th Grammy Awards, and is nominated in the category again for his Pro Tools mixing for the Grammys this year. He is also nominated in the same category for his role as Pro Tools mixer for the Academy Awards. Elmo Ponsdomenech '83 is nominated twice in the category of Outstanding Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half Hour) and Animation for his role as a rerecording mixer for the HBO programs Barry and Silicon Valley. Andy King B.M. 88, the rerecording mixer for Westworld, was nominated for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour) for the episode Akane No Mai.

One of today's most prominent film and television composers, Djawadi is nominated twice in the category of Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score). He composed the music for two of the most talked-about shows on television, HBO's Game of Thrones and Westworld. His nominated scores are for the episodes The Dragon and the Wolf for Game of Thrones, and Akane No Mai for Westworld. While visiting Boston on the Game of Thrones national tour in February of 2017, Djawadi met with a group of 60 Berklee students to discuss his contributions to some of the buzziest programs on television today. He also personally donated 114 tickets to the TD Garden concert to students and selected faculty.

John Paesano B.M. 00 was nominated for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music for his theme on the Netflix show Marvel's The Defenders, and Patrick Smith B.M. 98 was nominated for his music mixing on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

The 70th annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on Monday, September 17, at 8:00 p.m. on NBC.
