New dates and new board members for Jozi Film Festival --

The Jozi Film Festival (JFF) has, for the past four years, been held in February of each year but will be moving to September as of 2016.
It s a strategic move says JFF founder Lisa Henry. Johannesburg mostly shuts down over December and early January and we found it too rushed to deliver the festival we want to by February. Jury members were pressured to watch films while they should be taking a break and we now won t be clashing with Oscar releases and the Oscars themselves. University students will also have more time to enter their work in the student category .
JFF has also announced new additions to their board. Ernest Nkosi, director of Thina Sobabili and co-founder of the Monarchy Group, and Mushroom Media s Warwick Allan have both come on board to help build the festival going forward.
Warwick Allen has been a longtime supporter of the festival and has always been willing to help out with the necessary preparations for the film festival. Allen heads up the post production house Mushroom Media, a full service post house, focused on the commercial and feature film markets.
We re thrilled to have Warwick and Ernest as part of the team. We remain committed to prioritising local film while seeking out the best foreign films, with an emphasis on independent films and filmmakers, says Henry.
The fifth annual Jozi Film Festival will take place from 16 to 18 September, with the opening night once again at The Bioscope Independent Cinema in Maboneng. Submissions will open next week and close at the end of June 2016. For submission details, visit the festival website.
