ZIFF launches new chapter in african film - celebrating 20 years --

The Zanzibar International Film Festival officially launched today in Dar es Salaam with a host of exciting announcements including the final programme of special events.
ZIFF in 2017 is celebrating 20 years of cinema with a full programme of film screenings across Stone Town, a host of workshops and forums, as well as special events and exhibitions. The support for this year s ZIFF has surpassed previous years with many new partners joining some of ZIFF s long time supporters such as ZanLink, who are once again the opening and closing ceremonies, ComNet who are continuing with their support of the annual Dhow Race, Azam Marine, GIZ, Double Tree Hilton and Ethiopian Airlines.
Some of ZIFF s newest partners include technology platform mahala.tv that is sponsoring ZIFF s first ever content market, SOKO FILAM, taking place from 12-14 July 2017 at the Park Hyatt in Stone Town. The event will see over 100 delegates doing business and attending panel discussions and master classes. All African film industry professionals are invited to register HERE to attend for free.
The US Embassy in Tanzania has also come on board to sponsor a series of workshops, as has the Milele Zanzibar Foundation.
The Foundation ACRA, an Italian non-governmental organization working to eradicate poverty will also be sponsoring a host of events in Forodhani Gardens as part of their project to support the long term sustainability of Stone Town s cultural heritage.
Various media partners such as Trace Mziki, who are the sponsors of the first annual ZIFF East African Music Video Award, CloudsTV, African Film Channel, Omenka magazine, DarLife, and Zanzibar24 will be spreading the word far and wide.
This year for the first time ZIFF is also able to offer a cash prize for its coveted Golden Dhow award thanks to a sponsorship from Showmax who will be attending the event to show their commitment to the best in African Film.

SIGNIS Awards (Best African Film and Best East African Talent Award) The SIGNIS Jury will present its Award to a film that is deemed to exemplify universal and spiritual values that enhance human dignity, justice and tolerance through the art of cinematic expression.

The first annual ZIFF Film School Competition and programme also promises to be a huge success with over 70 young film students traveling from all over East Africa to attend two days of screenings and workshops.
