Vizrt s new automatic player tracking in Viz Libero makes player-attached graphics available in seconds

Image-based player tracking technology removes need for keyframing and requires no additional on-site hardware to follow player movement and attach graphics to them.

Vizrt, a leading provider of content production systems for the digital media industry, today announced that it has developed a new automatic player tracking technology for its leading Viz Libero sports analysis tool.

It is the first solution ever to automatically track players on the pitch that can accurately show their movement without needing any special cameras installed at the stadium. By simply clicking on one or multiple players, Viz Libero can automatically track them and correct itself if the view of a player becomes obstructed at any point. Operators can still manually override the automatic tracking if needed. This new function removes the need for keyframing players in post, meaning the graphic is ready to use within seconds. It can even be carried out from a broadcaster's own studio, using Viz Libero and a direct satellite feed from the venue.

Broadcasters are increasingly turning to player-attached graphics to let their experts give audiences a more detailed analysis of what's happening on the pitch and why, said Dr. Stephan W rmlin Stadler, Executive VP Sports at Vizrt. This new tool within Viz Libero will dramatically reduce turnaround time for getting player tracks, player labels, or defense lines on air, as keyframing is no longer needed. In football, for example, visualising an entire defensive formation becomes a four-click and ten to fifteen second operation.

Viz Libero, Vizrt's highly configurable 3D virtual sports analysis tool, generates unique perspectives for analysing interesting or controversial scenes for a variety of sports using existing match footage. A preview of the new version of Viz Libero, complete with automatic player tracking, is being showcased by Vizrt on its booth (7.A10) throughout IBC 2014 along with a host of other innovations for broadcasters.
