Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre Deploys Riedel MediorNet and Artist

Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre in Victoria, Australia, has deployed Riedel MediorNet video infrastructure and an intercom ecosystem built around Artist to support its broadcast and production workflows. The systems provide 12G-SDI signal distribution, integration with visiting outside broadcast (OB) operations, and wired and wireless communications across the venue.

The venue opened June 20 on Geelong's waterfront. It includes the 1,000-seat Wala Mirr Theatre, about 3,700 square meters of flexible event space, and a suite of divisible breakout rooms. It hosts events ranging from gala dinners and conferences to flat-floor concerts and exhibitions and is expected to support regional and national broadcast events.

Fiber connectivity runs throughout the facility, allowing 12G-SDI signals to be transported between production areas and the MediorNet infrastructure. Cameras can be connected locally and their signals sent over fiber, and a MicroN UHD can be deployed in an event space as a local connection point into the MediorNet network. A dedicated 24-core single-mode fiber connection runs to the venue's satellite truck position, making signals on the MediorNet network available at the OB patch. Broadcasters already using MediorNet can connect their production infrastructure to the venue network over fiber.

For communications, the venue uses Artist with Bolero wireless intercom, PunQtum partyline intercom, and Riedel SmartPanels. Sixteen Bolero antennas cover the venue's indoor and outdoor areas, with 36 Bolero beltpacks on site. In the Wala Mirr Theatre, Artist, PunQtum, and SmartPanels complement the wireless Bolero infrastructure.

For us, MediorNet is one of the highest-bandwidth, self-healing networked SDI transport systems available today, says Michael Walker, Senior Manager of Audiovisual, Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre. It allows us to bring 12G-SDI signals into the network anywhere in the building where we have fiber. We can bring individual camera signals back to the central infrastructure, deploy a MicroN UHD locally in the room, or integrate a broadcaster's MediorNet-equipped truck over fiber. That gives us a great deal of flexibility in how we support each production.
