South African company to exhibit at the Lumiere Grand Lyon Film Festival

Cape Town based Gravel Road Entertainment Group will be the first South African company to exhibit at the Lumiere Grand Lyon Film Festival, in France from 13 - 19 October 2014. The festival is dedicated to the remembrance and history of cinema and will be hosting the 2nd Classic Film Market (CFM), the only market of its kind in the world that focuses on Classic Cinema from around the world.

Gravel Road's speciality film release label, Retro Afrika Bioscope, is one of only 12 classic film distributors to have been invited to exhibit content at this year's CFM, where over 60 classic content buyers/ exhibitors will be in attendance. Furthermore, it is the only distributor specializing in retro content from the African continent.

In 2013 Gravel Road launched an initiative to locate, digitally restore and re-release retro African films for modern audiences. Many of these films were thought to be lost forever , says group CEO Benjamin Cowley, but thanks to modern technology we are able to bring them back to their former glory, in fact, in many cases the result is that the films are better than when first seen back then.

JOE BULLET [1973], starring the late Ken Gampu, was Gravel Road's first restored film, and since have been responsible for the restoration of 26 other African films, including the original TROMPIE [1974] which had it's premier at this year's kykNET's Silwerskermfees.

Benjamin goes on to say, It is a privilege for Gravel Road to be invited to present our catalog of restored African films to high profile international buyers and distributors specializing in Classic content, more so, to be the only one with African content .
