Blackmagic Design Announces Ultra HD Recording for HyperDeck Studio Pro NAB 2013, Las Vegas, USA - April 8, 2013 - Blackmagic Design today announced a new software update for its HyperDeck Studio Pro SSD recorder/player that will add Ultra HD recording in Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) format. This update will be available in May as a free update for all HyperDeck Studio Pro customers.

HyperDeck Studio Pro will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design NAB 2013 booth at #SL218.

When originally released, HyperDeck Studio Pro featured an advanced design with Ultra HD playback as well as SD and HD recording and playback. With this new update, customers will be able to record Ultra HD and use HyperDeck Studio Pro as a broadcast recorder for Ultra HD recording. The choice of ProRes 422 (HQ) means Ultra HD records at incredible quality while creating files that are fully compatible with editing software. ProRes 422 (HQ) also means Ultra HD recording can be done using a single SSD.

The new Ultra HD recording feature of HyperDeck Studio Pro makes it a perfect match for the ATEM Production Studio 4K for doing full live productions in Ultra HD. In addition to this Ultra HD recording feature, HyperDeck Studio Pro was recently upgraded with 6G-SDI connections. All models now support HDMI Ultra HD input and output using a single HDMI cable.

About HyperDeck Studio Pro HyperDeck Studio Pro is an advanced SSD recorder that includes powerful new features such as 4 channels of 3 Gb/s SDI in and out, built-in high speed Thunderbolt connection, as well as full HDMI and analog in and out including standard XLR connectors for audio and timecode. HyperDeck Studio Pro features higher processing power and quality which allows full Ultra HD recording and playback from a single SSD disk using ProRes 422 (HQ) compression, providing four times the resolution of regular 1080 HD video.

HyperDeck Studio features a beautiful user friendly VTR style design with function buttons, a jog wheel for jog and shuttle, plus external RS-422 control. The high resolution LCD screen displays timecode and transport information, plus a full color thumbnail preview of the current clip in record and playback. Crystal look buttons give customers full transport control just like a broadcast deck.

HyperDeck Studio Pro fits easily into outside broadcast vans or a master control room. It's perfect for on set recording and viewing of dailies, or as a video server or for replays at live events. With new multi channel connections, Thunderbolt port and Ultra HD playback, HyperDeck Studio Pro is also perfect for digital signage, and the unit is ideal for feature film work as the single device can instantly switch between SD, HD, 2K and Ultra HD playback.

HyperDeck Studio Pro records universally compatible QuickTime files in uncompressed 10 bit, DNxHD and ProRes so the files stored on disk can be used with virtually any editing, color correction or finishing tools, such as Final Cut Pro X, Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve and more.

When connected to a computer via the new high speed Thunderbolt port, HyperDeck Studio Pro will capture and playback direct to any Thunderbolt based computer, giving customers full compatibility with popular software including Final Cut Pro X, Final Cut Pro 7, Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer 6, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop and more. Also included is Blackmagic Design's UltraScope software, which enables customers to use the Thunderbolt connection for full waveform monitoring and scopes direct from HyperDeck.

Availability and Price Ultra HD Recording for HyperDeck Studio Pro will be available as a free software update for all Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Studio Pro customers in May 2013. HyperDeck Studio Pro is available now for US$1,995 from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide.
