Strategic agreement to deliver S3 cloud storage in Switzerland with full data sovereignty and local control including at the level of individual cantons plus security, flexibility, and competitive costs

Cubbit, the first geo-distributed cloud storage enabler, and Ailanto, a Swiss IT system integrator, today announced a new Business Alliance Partnership to accelerate adoption among Swiss enterprises of cloud storage services that are fully sovereign, secure, and cost-competitive.

Through this agreement, Ailanto enters the cloud market by integrating DS3 Composer Cubbit's software-defined object storage into the data centres of its Swiss partners to create and offer its own S3 cloud storage service, fully hosted and operated in Switzerland via a federated model.

Ailanto supports enterprise customers with specialised services spanning infrastructure operations, security, system integration, and AI projects. It serves industries ranging from banking and the public sector to healthcare and utilities. In a cloud market dominated by hyperscalers and overseas providers, Ailanto was seeking a solution that would enable it to maintain high service levels, retain full control over data, and remain competitive in a Swiss market increasingly sensitive to the strategic value of digital sovereignty.

In this context, exponential data growth and increasingly stringent requirements around security, sovereignty, and cost efficiency are pushing organisations to rethink their IT strategy. At the same time, geopolitical developments are sharpening IT leaders' focus on effective data control and exposure to potential unauthorised access including requests linked to extraterritorial regulations such as the US Cloud Act.

With DS3 Composer deployed on the infrastructure of Ailanto's partners, the system integrator can deliver multiple, flexible service tiers from a single intuitive interface and geofence deployments to specific geographic areas, adapting the service to the sectoral and regulatory requirements of individual Swiss cantons. Benefits for enterprises include data sovereignty and resilience as data is pulverised , meaning it is fragmented into encrypted pieces and distributed across multiple locations, never exposed in full and always accessible as well as cost efficiency and full S3-compatibility.

Ailanto is launching the service with an initial capacity of 1 petabyte, with further expansion planned from the second half of 2026. Depending on requirements, customers will be able to choose between a fully-managed cloud object storage service hosted and operated in Switzerland on Ailanto partners' data centres, or an on-premises deployment of DS3 Composer on the user's own infrastructure.

Key use cases include core S3 scenarios such as backup, storage for applications and databases, and low-latency storage for hosting websites and e-commerce. Cubbit will support Ailanto and its partners through close technical and commercial collaboration, including training, sales support, and joint go-to-market initiatives ensuring high SLA standards, technical support, and service quality.
