Ex-girlfriend of Oscar Pistorius speaks to Good Morning Britain

Samantha confesses: I once hid a gun from Pistorius .

Her mother Patricia admits: I often worried he might commit suicide .

Today on ITV's Good Morning Britain, Oscar Pistorius' ex - girlfriend Samantha Taylor told John Stapleton that she once hid a gun from him during their relationship.

Describing the moment during an interview with her mother Patricia, she told John: On one occasion I did hide his gun from him. We were at his house. We had a couple of friends over. Oscar was dancing with his friend and they both fell and Oscar had cut his lip open and I think because they had had a little bit too much to drink he thought that I had hurt him, so I think because that was at the back of his mind I thought let me just put this away', so I didn't necessarily fear for my life in the sense that I thought he was going to hurt me but I knew that there was a possibility that having a gun around it might go off and that's why I hid it.

Speaking about his gun, Samantha said that he kept it by his bedside or on the floor next to his legs, adding that she did see him use the gun: The Police had asked Oscar to step out of the car and he had left his gun on the seat, when we drove off he shot out of the sun roof.

On her relationship with Oscar, Samantha said: He's a very charming man, he's a very respectful man. We did have quite a few arguments usually over petty things As I said in court, he had lost his temper with me a couple of times No, he never physically abused me.

Patricia Taylor, Samantha's mother, also spoke of the man who she acted as a mother figure for. On her daughter Sam's relationship with the athlete, Patricia admitted: I was very concerned about the safety of Samantha towards the end of the relationship, it was not going well. The cars, the guns, everything had just become too much I think mainly the cars because I know he was driving up to 300km an hour which was a worry and I spoke to him about it and just his getting more agitated and his whole personality was just he just didn't seem to be in control as much.

On the man she knew, Patricia added: [He was] very, very charming, very well mannered, I really liked him when I first met him. Over time, a lot changed, he cried to me a lot on the phone, he used to call me crying. He would have very low lows and then very high highs but it was too extreme, I often worried he might commit suicide.

And on her response to the not guilty verdicts that Oscar has so far received, Patricia said: I think first and foremost, I still feel so heartbroken that Reeva passed away. When I see her parents sitting there, I think that is the biggest tragedy. When I look at Oscar, I see someone that we really cared for. There's so many contradictory feelings I wouldn't [like to see him spend time behind bars] because I cared for him so but at the same time, if the judge did find him guilty of something and he did kill Reeva then he must be punished accordingly.
