In 1912 - 1913, Gaston M li s, brother of the famous Georges M li s, travelled all over the world ten months long from San Francisco to Yokohama, by Tahiti, Bora Bora, New Zealand, Australia, Java , Singapore, Cambodia and Vietnam. Accompanied by his wife Hortense, and a group of twenty people, he produced during this journey 64 movies. Some of them were the first ever shot in these geographical areas, as for instance in Tahiti or in Angkor . Nocturnes Productions chose to follow him hundred years later for an archeological immersion in the cinema history. This documentary is a meditation on the fragility of the film art . It will allow to discover what remains of the work of Gaston M li s and the places he filmed.
It will as well lead to a reflection on alterity, representation and identity.
