Quantel to contribute Open Source Restful API implementation

Quantel revolutionQ is a suite of software services that delivers efficient media production on generic storage. revolutionQ uses a Service Orientated Architecture (SOA) to enable users to build flexible custom workflows to meet their business requirements. The Framework for Interoperable Media Services (FIMS) is an initiative jointly managed by the EBU and AMWA to define standards for SOA systems. At NAB Quantel is announcing that revolutionQ supports FIMS and FIMS Capture, Transform and Transfer services - enabling plug and play operation with a FIMS compliant system. Illustrating the huge potential of FIMS, one of the first revolutionQ users will be using the FIMS capture service to control several hundred simultaneous recordings.

Quantel is also leading work in the FIMS taskforce to create a RESTful FIMS interface. REST (REpresentational State Transfer) is a lightweight, easy to use technological approach that is the native language of the web. A key benefit is its loosely-coupled interfaces that enable FIMS to scale across the entire enterprise. REST is also easy to program making it quicker and easier to develop FIMS compliant systems. Quantel revolutionQ and QTube already use RESTful interfaces for their ease of use and scalability.

Quantel is planning to contribute an open source reference implementation of the FIMS RESTful API to the FIMS taskforce to help speed adoption of this important addition to FIMS. Dr Richard Cartwright, Quantel Principal Software Architect, will be presenting the RESTful FIMS API on the joint AMWA/FIMS booth # N1334 at 10.15am on Tuesday April 9th.
