Genelec go green with M series

Genelec go green with M series New energy efficient speakers for project studios Genelec have launched a brand new series of loudspeakers, called the M series. Available in two sizes, the new speakers are billed as being energy-efficient, as part of a larger sustainability initiative from the Finnish company.

The first of these design features is the use of a wood fibre and recyclable plastic composite for the speaker enclosure. This composite is easy to mould and is ecologically sustainable without compromising the sound Genelec has become famous for. The flexibility has allowed Genelec to reduce weight and produce an unusual twin bass port, called a Laminar Integrated Port, which fires inwards from the feet of the speakers and reduce enclosure vibration, it is claimed.

The M series will initially be available in two sizes, one with a five-inch driver (M030) and one with 6.5-inch driver (M040). Both feature efficient class D amplifiers which weigh less, and run at lower temperatures than the equivalent class A and B amplifiers. Continuing the theme of energy efficiency, the M series also feature Intelligent Signal Sensing power management which automatically puts the speakers into a power conservation mode when theyre not being used.

Aimed specifically at the project studio, the M series have the same EQ tilt controls that you would expect to find on other Genelec speakers, to compensate for less-than-ideal speaker placement. The price tag is also aimed at the project studio, with the M030 to be priced around 500, and the M040 at around M040 when they become available in June.
