Sony drives technology innovation at UEFA Champions League Final with BT Sport's 4K HDR Production
Sony Professional Solutions Europe (PSE) has partnered with BT Sport to help the broadcaster deliver a 4K HDR end-to-end production of the UEFA Champions League Final to provide viewers with a first-class viewing experience.
Broadcast production
Sony supported a full end-to-end HDR live production of the highly-anticipated match that took place at The National Stadium of Wales in Cardiff.
Sony's HDC-4300 and HDC-4800 System cameras were used to capture all of the action in 4K HDR, while three HDC-P43 cameras were used on the Railcam and Spidercam models deployed for the all-important slow-motion replay of unmissable action highlights.
Using the PWS-4500 live server system, the high-quality recording and replay capabilities cliped compilations for High Frame Rate and Ultra High Frame Rate content through the Shareplay 10Gb Network. Master monitoring of UHD HDR contents and grading was completed on Sony's BVM-X300 and PVM-X500 monitors. The real time conversion of both HDR and non-HDR native sources was done by the HDRC-4000 convertor, which also delivered the HDR programme format in PQ & HLG, converted from the production format S-log3.
The project also encompassed an UEFA showroom in the stadium, which was used to deliver UHD coverage of the match via Sony BRAVIA televisions.
Officiating support
As with all UEFA Champions League matches, the final was also supported by Sony's Hawk-Eye goal-line technology for the match, providing real-time officiating assistance to the referee, as well as graphical broadcast replays of close decisions.

Consumer experience
As part of Sony's commitment to enhance technology innovation in live sports broadcasting, PSE has also partnered with Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe and Sky Deutschland to offer a beta trial for the live match to be enjoyed on on PlayStation VR for a select number of users.
