AP-Green Light e-book helps kids explore space The Associated Press, in collaboration with Green Light Learning Tools, has released a new educational e-book on space exploration.

Geared toward students in fourth through eighth grades, educators and parents, Exploring Space is available for download at the Apple iBookstore.

In an innovative approach to marrying news coverage and curriculum, the book features educational text paired with stunning AP photography and video footage.

Students can tap their way through an interactive timeline on the history of the space race, illustrated by historic AP images, or flip through a gallery of notable astronauts. Readers can learn about the origins of modern astronomy and the future of space exploration, swipe through an interactive map of constellations and hear NASA scientists explain why they think water might have once flowed on Mars.

News video and images have tremendous power to engage and inform and bring a subject like space exploration to life in the classroom, said Sue Cross, AP's senior vice president for business development and partner relations in the Americas. We are pleased to be working with Green Light, a leader in the emerging education uses of news, to reach a wide audience across these new platforms.

Earlier this year, AP collaborated with Green Light on an e-book about the American presidency. Both e-books are available for download at the Apple iBookstore for $5.99, and are compatible with the iPad2 or later and the iPad Mini.
