In December 2019, Telenor selected Ericsson to deliver its nationwide 5G radio access network. Now Ericsson is transforming the service provider's core network and, going forward, will modernize the operator's entire Radio Access Network (RAN) network with the latest solutions from Ericsson Radio System.
Trondheim, a city of around 200,000 that's known for its smart, sustainable city solutions, has now become the first city in Norway with commercial 5G services powered by the Ericsson 5G platform. The enhanced mobile broadband services are being delivered on the 3.6 GHz band.
Jenny Lindqvist, Head of Northern & Central Europe, Ericsson, says: 5G will enable new services and use cases for people, businesses, and society at large from smartphones to robots on the factory floor. With its unique ecosystem, advanced universities and high-tech companies, Trondheim is the perfect location to launch 5G services with unprecedented speed and flexibility to empower innovation and a variety of use cases. But this is just the beginning and we are excited to soon bring 5G to the rest of Norway.
