Dan's track record in the industry is unparalleled. 2fm is a core priority for RT it's vital that RT , as the public service broadcaster, meet the needs of younger listeners and this appointment is a significant statement of confidence in the future of 2fm.

Commenting on today's figures, Ms Duignan said: Last year we had a run of four really encouraging books for 2fm, and these figures are a continuation of that success. Hector has gained, Colm has gained, Larry has gained ... Ryan Tubridy has had a marginal drop to 159,000, down 1000, and this is a conclusive indication that his listenership is stable and loyal, and there to be grown.

Dan Healy is currently CEO of Independent Radio Sales, having previously served as CEO of both Newstalk and 98FM. He is a co-founder of iRadio.

Commenting today, Dan Healy said: I am absolutely delighted to accept the appointment as Head of RT 2fm. It is a wonderful and challenging opportunity to play a significant role in the further development of the station. It's a well-worn phrase in radio circles, but it's also true that RT 2fm is a sleeping giant. It plays a hugely important role in providing outstanding music, sport, entertainment, news and information to its legion of listeners.

There are big commercial challenges ahead for the station, but 2fm has the listenership base, the talent and the energy to turn around. My goal is to make 2fm the most-listened-to music and entertainment station in Ireland.

RT 2fm today welcomed book on book gains in key slots, with gains for Hector, Colm Hayes and Larry Gogan. There were also notable gains on Saturday for Weekend Breakfast, Dave Fanning and Weekenders with Paddy McKenna and Ruth Scott, up 6000 and 10000 respectively. New sport programme Game On debuted with an impressive 20,000.
