Berklee has named Maureen McMullan 09 as concert and event producer in the Office of External Affairs. A Scottish soprano, songwriter, arranger, and bandleader trained in both classical and contemporary music, McMullan is widely recognized for her versatility. She has sung professionally in diverse genres including jazz, pop, folk, musical theater, R&B, and oratorio, with performances spanning stage, theater, festivals, television, studio, and radio. McMullan is a Berklee alumna and has served as assistant chair of the Voice Department since 2015.
I am honored to build on Rob Rose's powerhouse legacy and to lead these remarkable student events into their next chapter of artistic growth and vitality, said McMullan. With a deep personal connection to Berklee, I feel not only a passion for its mission, but also an embodiment of the core values it has instilled in me. I aspire to champion new voices, embrace cutting-edge digital technologies, and create vibrant interdisciplinary programming that is truly global in its outlook. My creative vision is to ensure our musical programs reflect and celebrate the cultural richness and diversity found in our extraordinarily talented community.
McMullan will provide leadership for concert production at the college, aligning her work with colleagues in concert operations, communications, marketing, and publicity, to support Berklees enrollment, advancement, and retention goals. The college's most high-profile events that feature student talent-including Singers Showcase, the Encore Gala, International Folk Festival, the Great American Songbook, convocation, and the commencement concert-will benefit from her artistic direction and oversight.
With her impressive skills as an educator, performer, producer, musical director, arranger, and project manager, Maureen is exceptionally qualified to lead concert production at the college, bringing a wide stylistic range to student performances at Berklee and beyond, said Tom Riley, vice president for external affairs.
McMullan has performed as lead vocalist at Symphony Hall with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops and Holiday Pops, and for Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings Symphony. She also appeared on the PBS TV music special and concert tour Highland Heartbeat, which featured Emmy Award-winning actor Brian Cox and original music by Grammy-nominated artist Beth Nielsen Chapman.
Prior to joining Berklee as an associate professor, McMullan served as a faculty member at Edinburgh Napier University and Strathclyde University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with first-class honors in applied music from the University of Strathclyde, a professional diploma from Berklee College of Music (summa cum laude), and an MBA with dual specialization in corporate renewal and marketing with Beta Gamma Sigma honors, from the DAmore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University.
