HBO screens documentary on Kenyan mall massacre --

A documentary on the terrorist attack which took place at Westgate Mall in Kenya on 21 September 2013, Terror at the Mall, debuted on US television network HBO on 15 September.
Produced and directed by UK-born Dan Reed, the film uses hours of previously unseen mall surveillance video footage taken from 100 security cameras, photos taken during the attack and testimonies from survivors and rescuers to recall the siege which lasted 49 hours, leaving 71 dead and hundreds wounded.
Survivor Katherine Walton comments on the attack by Al-Shabaab, an Al Qaeda- linked terrorist group from Somalia: It was instantaneous fear and just dread.
Another survivor, 15-year-old Harveen Sihra, who was shot in the thigh, stomach and foot, remembers the gunman s words and says, The only thing he said was that we are here to kill. You killed our people in Somalia. We normally don t kill women and children but you kill ours in Somalia and so we are here to take revenge.
Reed has a number of current affairs film credits including his Emmy-nominated Terror in Mumbai, which won a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award, and the BAFTA-nominated Terror in Moscow.
The film was edited by Mark Towns and shot by Mrinal Desai with executive producer, George Carey; head of production, Rachel Naughton; assistant producer, Sasha Achilli and executive producer for BBC, Sam Bagnall. HBO credits include senior producer, Nancy Abraham and executive producer, Sheila Nevins.
Marking the first anniversary of the attack, HBO will broadcast the film on the following additional dates: 18, 21, 23 and 27 September.
