The winners of the 71st Golden Globe Awards were announced on 12 January with Steve McQueen s 12 Years a Slave taking the honours for Best Motion Picture Drama and American Hustle directed by David O. Russell winning for Best Motion Picture Musical / Comedy.
Alfonso Cuar n received the award for Best Director Motion Picture for Gravity and Spike Jonze won Best Screenplay Motion Picture for Her.
Matthew McConaughey took home the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for his role in Dallas Buyers Club while Leonardo DiCaprio won in the Best Actor Musical / Comedy category for his portrayal of Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street. Both movies are based on true life stories.
For her role as Jasmine in Woody Allen s Blue Jasmine Cate Blanchett took home the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama and Amy Adams won Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical / Comedy for American Hustle.
U2 was honoured with Best Original Song for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom for Ordinary Love.
